Good evening, everybody. I hope that you can hear me. I’m whispering from the bathroom whilst my daughter is finally sleeping. She has so much energy, but when she crashes, she crashes. Um, yeah, it’s, it’s amazing to see how she keeps developing still. But wow, this girl has a lot of energy in her. Praise God, I wanted to check in with all of you and just reflect really.
It is Friday, the 12th of June, so it’s almost midnight though. I’ve been reflecting on Sundays and what Sundays are about as we’re about to head into the weekend.
Sundays are truly about remembering the Lord and I have definitely thought a lot about this because my Sundays have changed a lot, of course, ever since I’ve really stepped into my faith, understanding what it means to be a Christian and Sundays are, therefore, about keeping that day for the Lord and it says this in Exodus, Exodus 20. Verse 8 to 11:
“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work. But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates. For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.”
So reflecting on that, it just makes me think about what we’re currently doing on Sundays because often I find that people I have done a lot of my life with, who are not used to seeing me step into my faith, still, you know, sometimes plant those kind of seeds of trying to create doubt and show that, oh, you’re not the same, which is great. I don’t want to be the same and. I should be born again and step into my faith properly. But it makes me realise that people will always try to add that peer pressure of, you know, you should be doing something else because of this because of that. And I’ve had to learn a lot to say no, a lot as a Christian, and not be so easily swayed by what people want me to do because it makes their life easier. So I’m definitely encouraged by the scripture that I’ve read and it makes me just want to encourage you to step into your faith boldly because Sundays are for the Lord, for the Lord alone, no matter how many times people want to tell you, oh, this is happening on Sunday, you should be part of it. You should do this, you should do that. You should be resting. We should be in church. We should be fellowshiping. We should be glorifying our holy Father. And something that we have been doing actually, myself, my husband, and our daughter, after a morning service, we head down somewhere really nice for Sunday lunch and have a lovely lunch and just enjoy that.
That’s become a really beautiful part of our sort of Sunday rhythm after our church and then we go home and rest and then later, go for the evening service and fellowship with everyone also after the service and that has been a true blessing because Sundays have become about really just diving into God’s word, making sure that we feel that we understand it and dive into the word that has been said for that day, based on what our pastor has said, but also us spending time in the word and just being together, being in a local church where, you know, we can really just make an impact and letting our daughter see all of these things and just being part of it as well.
What I do love about our church is how welcoming they are of children because that is obviously something very important and that should just be the norm. It’s not always the case. But she’s part of it. She sits with us. She hears us sing the hymns. She always staring at us and sometimes she joins in with her loud voice. And, um, It’s just nice to see her grow up already and be part of this. You know, she’s actually been going to church since she was what, a week old or something. So, Yeah, some days. Uh, for the Lord alone. Um, despite how much um, people want to influence you to do something else on Sundays.
Don’t leave the Lord. Don’t depart from him. You know, the scriptures always tell us what is important, everything there is written for a reason, and it’s important that we do our best to understand it also for ourselves. So, yeah, it’s just something that got me thinking really as we’re coming to another Sunday, which I’m really looking forward to, and I just pray that you keep showing up, going to church and going with your family, encouraging others to come and join, fellowshipping with the saints and having your Sunday lunches.
And just taking up the Sabbath and then that day of rest and making sure it’s restful, but you’re not doing work and being poured into it. If you are, reflect on that, and know who you’re called to be and how you’re called to show up. So yeah, I pray that, that encourages you. And I look forward to this Sunday. I hope you do too.
