Where Courage Grows and Fears Fade: Becoming a Lioness Mama

Good afternoon everybody. How are you doing? It is the 21st of July. Wow, where has this month gone? It’s just racing, racing by. I have been thinking a lot about how I’ve been just facing a lot of fears and I just try to think about what’s changed in my life, like, what’s, what’s driving me to, you know, face up to those fears and just kind of, just go and grow and move forward. After speaking to a family member and speaking to a friend, it’s definitely helped me to see, it’s because I’m a mother, and that’s honestly the truth. It really is. You become as this family member put it, a lioness, you want to protect your cubs, you do anything to keep them safe and with that, with, you know, with protection, with protecting your cubs, you’re facing your fears.

It doesn’t mean you’re not scared. You’re scared, you’re frightened, but you, you have this sort of strength to be able to make sure that they’re okay and that they’re fine. And basically, the fears that I was thinking about were. I had a massive fear to drive which is something that I experienced for a long time, but I think a lot of it, when I think about it was mental. It was mental in regards to like mentally how I was thinking about it. It was anxiety, it was comparison, it was you’ve not done this yet? Others have. It was pressure, instead of finding the joy in learning about learning to drive, and enjoying that, and then seeing how the confidence will then grow from that, because I’m learning about it out of joy.

Like it’s a joyful thing to do. So that was a big fear, and I’ve been thinking about that as I drove my daughter to her swim class today, and yeah, absolutely loved swimming. Seeing her swim, and I love swimming too, seeing her just build and grow in her confidence in the water and just being there to hold her as she’s doing everything and guide her and protect her and then also at the back of my mind, knowing that, you know, I’m training her up in the way she should go and she will by God’s grace, not depart from the Lord because she will eventually leave my, I guess, my care in a sense.

She will go and also, you know, make disciples and eventually leave our home and grow into a woman. So yeah, just, it’s amazing how going through the experience of motherhood can really just make you lean into facing those fears very quickly. You’re essentially, You’re just more confident, you, You just go for it.

You don’t really think too much about things and I think that’s healthy in the sense that I feel, I never thought that would be the reason why, like I would have faced that fear, but I’ve been noticing and I’ve been noticing how, you know, there’s so much that has changed so much that I probably would have been a lot more frightened to have done Because I’m now a mum and I, I know I want to be a good example. I want her to see that, you know, you can face fears and you can do things, not because you’re doing it to please man, but you’re doing it because it brings joy and it’s the right thing to do. It’s a good thing to do and, it’s just, how you’re supposed to grow.

Like, this is the evidence that, you know, the fruits of the spirit should shine through you. Because you are a child of God, and because of that, you do face these fears and you’re gentle, you’re kind, you know, you have confidence, you are willing to do things that are good, that are worthy of praise, that, that are lovely and joyful, and all of those things.

I find it’s just such a blessing to reflect on this really, because often when I’m driving, I am thinking these things and then I realise, well, I’m driving. Yeah. I have been driving and it’s been a wonderful experience to do it and also to have my daughter with me and get able to one day tell her about that I had this fear and things change when she kind of just came into my life. So thank you, God, for that. It reminds me of the scripture in Ezekiel 19, chapter 19, verse 2, which says:

“What a lioness was your mother among the lions. She lay down among them and reared her cubs.”

And isn’t that so evident when you think about it? All you mamas who do listen to these journals, do you find that’s the same thing that you’ve experienced that things just kind of change and your confidence builds and because you know you do anything to protect and nurture your your carbs, your babies. You kind of just jump in and deal with those scary moments and don’t think too much. And you always feel better for doing that. Like it’s not something you regret ever. Because I definitely, I definitely don’t. I feel like it’s again another reminder of this is why things happen in God’s timing and this is why you shouldn’t compare yourself to others because God knows what’s best for all of us.

And for those that seek him, they will hear him and they will hear what he wants to say to you, they will walk boldly in their faith and through walking boldly, you’ll just see more things unravel in your life, more peace will reign over your life because you walk with God. So. It’s truly a blessing to have, I guess, yeah, this sort of testimony of growth. I find it to be, really wonderful. Really wonderful.

What else happened this week? So, my daughter apparently said her first word, and my husband said he heard her say it yesterday that she said, Mama, can you imagine that? I haven’t heard it. But he screamed and said she said it. So, you know, if that, if I’m able to hear it as well, then I’m sure I’ll speak about that next time, but I just can’t believe she’s growing this fast. It’s just, wow. She just wants to do everything. There’s just, okay, the world’s so exciting. Let’s go, let’s go. So, yeah, that’s amazing to see. She’s also got a tooth and a half . So the teeth continue to grow, and I find that she’s loving to try more, and more of different foods now. She had some boiled plantain yesterday with some eggs and asparagus. She has quite the palate, doesn’t she? But, um, Yeah, I especially noticed that when she sees food on your own plate, like myself, my husband, her grandparents, anyone, like, that’s, I guess, looking after her, she’ll want what they have. So she’ll quickly notice, okay. If her food’s a bit different, she’s like, no, I want your food.

I find that to be so funny. Yeah, it’s been a great week and last week was great too. I also was learning how to serve because I’ve been again. I think I might talk about this in another journal, but just to give you a bit of an intro to it.

I have been learning how to play tennis again, which has been really fun and I’m really excited to see where that goes. What are my goals for it? Well to play socially, maybe competitively, who knows? I just want to go for it, and I think this is it again the lioness coming out. It’s that confidence. I’m just seeing where it goes. But, there’ll be more on that next time. So, yeah, I just pray that you’re having a great week so far, and may your home be filled with peace this week. God bless. Bye.
